Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata) is a premier autonomous science institution established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, as part of the IISER network. Located in Mohanpur, Nadia district, West Bengal, the institute is dedicated to integrating high-quality research with undergraduate and postgraduate science education. IISER Kolkata operates under the umbrella of the IISER Act 2007, granting it the status of an Institute of National Importance. The campus spans approximately 200 acres and features state-of-the-art research facilities including central instrumentation facilities, advanced computing resources, and specialized research centers in areas such as nanoscience, energy, and biodiversity. The institute follows a distinctive pedagogical model emphasizing discovery-based learning, where students are introduced to research laboratories from their foundational years, culminating in mandatory thesis projects.
