Indian Institute of Technology Ropar

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) is one of the eight new IITs established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. Located in Rupnagar (Ropar), Punjab, the institute began its academic journey in 2008 from a transit campus at the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Bhaddal, before moving to its permanent campus spread over 525 acres along the banks of the Satluj River. IIT Ropar has rapidly emerged as a research-intensive institution, earning recognition for its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The institute operates under the IIT Council framework and benefits from the prestige and academic rigor associated with the IIT brand. The permanent campus features state-of-the-art infrastructure including advanced research laboratories, a technology innovation hub, modern classrooms, and comprehensive residential facilities. IIT Ropar has distinguished itself through its flexible curriculum structure that allows students to pursue minors, dual degrees, and interdisciplinary projects across departments. The institute has established several centers of excellence including the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) in Cyber-Physical Systems, the Center for Energy and Environment, and the Bio-X Center.
